What operating system do I need to run Tico?

Tico e1.0 runs with the following operating systems: Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, (all 32-bit systems)

Does it work with Linux or MacOS?

Currently, there is not available installable version for MacOs yet.

There is a version for Linux that can be downloaded from HERE.

In order to install the Linux version, the following must be executed, with system administrator permissions

$dpkg -i tico_1.0-01_i386.deb

A new entry, Universal Access, appears in the Aplications, with access to the Tico tools.

In its current Linux version, Tico interpreter is not able to reproduce videos. When trying to reproduce a video, no error is repported, the video is just ignored.

Do I need any additional programs?

Yes, you need to install Java Virtual Machine on your computer. You can download it here.

What do I need to run it?

  • Operating system: Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7.
  • Java Virtual Machine 1.6 or latter.

I have developed a TICO project and want to run it on other computers. How can I do that?

All files necessary to reproduce the board are stored in the generated Tico project (.tco). You only have to copy the .tco on to the computer you want to use. You do not need to copy pictures, sound or video.

How can I add the pictogram gallery to my Tico Editor?

To find the instructions go to the Pictogram Gallery section. Click here.

When importing the pictos gallery the following error message appears: Malformed database

In most cases, if the pictos have been properly downloaded, this is a question of the configuration of you web browser. Let's assume the downloaded set of pictos corresponds to the file TICO_Pictogramas_Color_100902.zip, and once unziped the folder TICO_Pictogramas_Color_100902 appears.

This last folder must contain the images to be imported (as well as the other necessary files). It can occur that instead of the images and associated files being in the folder, another folder, with the same name is inside, containing the images. If this is the case, you must navigate until the deepest level, as shown in the figure.

What video formats can I play in a Tico Project?

Available for Windows only

The Tico Editor allows the following formats AVI, WMV, MPG, MPEG and FLV. However, you must make sure that the video you want to play can be played with Windows Media Player, otherwise Tico will not play it either. If a video cannot be displayed try downloading a codec pack. For FLV video format you will need specific codecs. Read below if you have further questions.

This video cannot be displayed in the Interpreter. What can I do?

You can download and install a codec pack on to your computer for Windows Media Player here. These codecs are free and open.

FLV format video cannot be displayed in the Interpreter. What can I do?

FLV videos need specific codecs that you can download here. These codecs are free and open.

Nothing happens when I open the board in the Interpreter and click on a cell. What can I do?

You must first start the browsing. To do so, go to the Actions menu and click on the Start option. In the Interpreter Options of the View menu, you can choose the most appropriate browsing method: Automatic Scanning, Manual Scanning or Direct Selection.

Who can I contact if I have a question?

You can send your e-mails to ticoproyecto@gmail.com

"The initial board cannot be removed"

This message appears when in the Editor you try to delete the initial board. The Interpreter requires the initial board to start the execution of the project. If you want to delete it, you must first establish the new initial board (option "Properties" of the "Project" menu) and then delete the former initial board.
